On 12 August 2014, P.T., short for playable teaser, was released as a free download for the PlayStation 4. The demo was enthusiastically received, and was truly frightening. It served as an interactive teaser for the game Silent Hills, which would have been the tenth instalment in the Silent Hill series. P.T. gameplay. Silent Hill is a Japanese horror franchise created by Keiichiro Toyama, […]
LCARS is a computer operating system in the Star Trek fictional universe, and an acronym for Library Computer Access/Retrieval System. It’s mostly known for the style of the computer displays, especially the ones in the The Next Generation and Voyager series. The LCARS graphical user interface was designed by Michael Okuda, and influenced by Gene Roddenberry. In homage to its creator, the […]
NASA’s space probe New Horizons sent back the best close-ups of Pluto mankind will probably see for decades. They are the first in a series of the sharpest views of Pluto it obtained during its July flyby. They’ve made a mosaic of the images, which you can find below. The images form a strip 80 km (50 mi) wide on a world 3 […]
We might want to travel the universe to discover alien worlds, but what if I told you, you don’t have to go that far to see some alien landscapes. There are many places on Earth that boggle the mind, and the Dallol volcano in Africa is one of them. When I first saw it, I […]
You won’t believe what kind of mess we’ve made up into our atmosphere! As of 2013, more than 500,000 pieces of debris, the size of a marble or larger, travelling at speeds up to 28,164 km/h (17,500 mph), are orbiting our planet. More than 20,000 pieces are larger than a softball, and millions more are […]
We’re humans from Earth, but in a lot of English sci-fi movies and games, Earth is often referred to as Terra, and humans are subsequently known as Terrans. Sometimes they use the name Gaia, where we would be called Gaians.
I’ve been having terrible allergy problems lately. I knew I had severe dust mite allergy, but I didn’t know it could affect me this much. I couldn’t function properly, and I wasn’t myself anymore! My allergy seems to have gotten worse. I think it’s because of the climate here in Thailand, and also because a […]

Tim Urban has written an amazing in-depth post about how artificial intelligence might develop, what might happen once it reaches a certain level, and what it might mean for mankind. It’s a very interesting read, and a bit scary too, since it might all happen within our lifetimes. Coming soon?
NASA’s space probe New Horizons made some images of Pluto at a distance of around 50 million km. The colour movies below, assembled from the images, show Pluto and its largest moon Charon in motion and colour. New Horizons is on its way to Pluto, and will make its closest approach on 14 July, flying by around 12,500 km (7,800 […]
Oskar Pernefeldt, a Swedish design student, proposed an international flag for our home planet, Earth. I think it’s a nice design, but flags of planets should have a representation of the planet on the flag, in my opinion, for the simple reason that it should be clear that it’s the flag of a planet. International Flag of Planet Earth
The following short movie, titled Halo: Landfall, has some really good live action sci-fi battle scenes. I just love how real and gritty it all looks, and the props are truly amazing! It was directed by Neill Blomkamp, and created to promote the game Halo 3, which released in 2007. Please enjoy. Halo Landfall
One of the most iconic Star Trek series is Star Trek: The Next Generation. I’ve found some hilarious Lieutenant Worf bloopers, and an interesting wardrobe/makeup test video of the series. Also, its captain, Jean-Luc Picard, is often used in memes nowadays. Star Trek The Next Generation: Lt. Worf Bloopers star trek screen test Blank Picard […]
I really can’t wait for the new Star Wars movie! The last 3 Star Wars movies were a complete letdown, in my opinion, but I have good hopes that director J.J. Abrams will do an amazing job on the new one, just like he did on the last two Star Trek movies. Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens is scheduled to […]
One of the worst fight scenes ever is a scene from an episode called Arena of Star Trek: The Original Series. It’s so bad that it’s actually fun to watch! And a few years ago they made a hilarious reprise of the legendary battle in an ad for a Star Trek game. One of the […]
If you think photorealistic graphics are still a decade away, think again. Euclideon, an Australian software company, has created a graphics engine called Unlimited Detail. It looks groundbreaking. The following video provides an explanation of how the engine works. The following video provides a representation of how the graphics can look.
I know it’s an oldie, but I just had to share this amazing video of Earth, seen from the International Space Station, with you. The video is made by Michael König, and consists of time-lapse sequences of photographs taken with a low-light camera by the crew of expeditions 28 and 29 aboard the ISS, from August to […]

Futurama is one of my favourite shows of all time. It’s an animated sitcom, made by the same guys that created The Simpsons, set in the future. Unfortunately, Comedy Central decided not to renew it, and the series ended on 4 September 2013. The show ran for a total of 7 seasons and 140 episodes, and spawned 4 movies. The humour, the creativity, and the clever stories […]
NASA recently released the sharpest large composite image ever taken of a portion of our neighbouring galaxy, Andromeda. It’s the largest NASA Hubble Space Telescope image ever assembled. Below is an amazing video of that image, the amount of stars is simply mind-boggling. The Andromeda galaxy has an estimated 1 trillion stars. Just imagine what’s out there. Gigapixels […]
